• نیمهشب در حال خواندن کتابی هستم و درست در میانهی صفحهی سی و هفت، یکی از کلمات کتاب تکان میخورد و به زحمت خودش را از سفیدی صلب کاغذ وا میکَنَد. بر سطرها و سفیدیهای محاط بین آنها سُر میخورد و پیش از آنکه بتوانم کتاب را ببندم، در فضای نامتناهی بیرون پنجره به پرواز در میآید. وقتی کتاب را دوباره باز میکنم میدانم که کلمه استعارهای کهنه بوده است که میتوانسته آنات و تکانههای مرا تبیین کند. فقدان کلمه بر سینهی صفحهی ۳۷ چون خانهای که برای همیشه ترکش کردهاند، چون پروانهای که بر طَبَق تاکسیدرمی ناگهان بر خود شکفته است، پیداست. شاید همانطور که بورخس میگوید؛ «تاریخ جهان چیزی نباشد مگر داستان چند استعاره» و این استعاره باشد که واجد تمامی آن استخوانها و عضلاتی است که ما با آنها نویسنده را باز میشناسیم. درست در لحظاتی که نویسنده بر لبههای این شهود کلامی قرار میگیرد تا پیشانی بر پیشانی خواننده بگذارد، استعاره چون الههای پر رمز و راز آفریده میشود و کسی چه میداند که میان نویسنده، استعاره و خوانندهی لرزان، کدامیک حقیقیترند؟ آیا شخصیتها هنگامی که از صفحات کتاب جدا میشوند و به هستی ما قدم میگذارند حقیقیتر از نویسندگانی نیستند که ما آنان را به نام و صورت میشناسیم؟ کتاب را میبندم و بعد در برابر چشمان من توفان به پا میشود؛ کتاب از هم میشکافد و صفحات به پرواز در میآیند. پنجره را باز میکنم و کلمات میگریزند.
• کلمات نامرئی، آن سایهها که در سفیدی محاط بین سطرها نفس میکشند و آنچه میگویند از به هم رسیدن میلیونها نفس، حرف و هجا به هم آمده است. کلمات مگو، اسم شبها، اوراد جادویی، کلماتی که میتوانند دیوارها را به زانو در آورند. کلماتی برای سفتن سنگها و حلول در روح اشیاء. کلماتی که بر بال زمان سفر کردند و هنگامی که بلندترین بناها فرو افتادند آنها به زمانهی ما آمدند. کلمات ناشینده. کلمات جادو. کلمهای که «والت ویتمن» در شعری بزرگ فرا خواندش:
«آنچه این شعر و هر شعر دیگری را دشوار میکند
آن ناشنیده با تیزترین گوشها، بیشکل در روشنترین چشمها یا درخشانترین ذهنها
نه دانش است و نه شهرت، نه شادکامی است نه توانگری
اما هنوز ضربان هر قلب و هر زندگی در سرتاسر دنیاست
بیوقفه
چندانکه تو و من و همگان پیاش میگیریم هر بار که از دست میرود
گشاده اما مکتوم، واقعیتر از واقعیت، یک توهم
بیمقدار، در اختیار همهکس، اما همیشه بیصاحب
آنچه شاعران بیهوده کوشیدند تا در قافیهاش کنند و مورخان در تاریخ بنویسندش
آنچه مجسمهسازان هرگز نتوانستند بتراشندش و هیچ نقاشی آن را نکشید
آنچه هیچ خوانندهای نسرودش، هیچ سخنران یا بازیگری بر زبانش نیاورد
آنچه به التماس فراخواندمش برای ترانهام.
بیاعتنا، نیمهعمومی، در پاتوقهای خصوصی، در خلوت
در پس کوهها و جنگلها
همراه شلوغترین خیابانهای شهر، در گردهمآییها،
او و پرتوهایش پیوسته در پروازند
در نگاه زیبا و معصوم کودکان
یا به شکلی ناساز در تابوت مردهای
یا در نمایش سپیده یا ستارگان در شب
چنان که در فیلمها رویایی را محو میکنند
آن پنهانشده اما باقی.
دو هجای کوچک آن را آفریدهاند
دو حرف که تمام آن را از آغاز تا پایان در خود دارد
چه مشتاقی برای دانستناش!
چه کشتیها و دریانوردانی که برایش به کام دریا رفتند!
چه بسیار مسافرانی که به خاطرش از خانه عزیمت کردند و هرگز باز نگشتند!
چه تیزاندیشهگانی که مردانه بر سرش قمار کردند و باختند!
چه بیشمار دکانهای زیبایی و عشق که بر آن شرط بستند!
و چهسان نیکیهای ما که از ازل از آن سرچشمه میگیرد و تا پایان به آن میرسد!
چگونه تمام شهادتهای قهرمانه برای آن بوده است!
چگونه او وحشت و شرارت و جنگ را بر زمین موجه کرد!
چگونه شعلههای درخشان و تابناکش در تمامی زمانها و مکانها
چشمان آدمی را به سوی خود کشید
باشکوه چون غروب آفتاب در ساحل شمالی، در آسمان و جزایر
و بر صخرهها
یا سکوت نیمشبان که بر میافروزد شمالیترین چراغهای دور از دست را
شاید معمایی است پرداختهی پروردگار،
آنچنان مبهم و روشن که برایش روح را و دیدنیهای کیهان را
و سرانجام بهشت را آفریده است!»*
