• «آنتونیو اورتگا اسکالونا» اهل مالاگا که به خاطر پدربزرگش که انجیرفروشی دورهگرد بود، به او «خوان برهوا» میگفتند، در کنار خوانندگان بزرگ دیگری چون «آنتونیو کاخون» و «کامرون» از اسطورههای آواز فلامنکو است. لورکا در توصیف او که در اواخر عمر بیناییاش را از دست داده بود میگوید که او نیز چون هومر در نابینایی آواز میخوانده است.
• نابینایی، پوشیده ماندن از دسترس جهان است. نابینایان که از چشم سر محروماند اغلب چشمهایی به درون پیدا میکنند. چشمهایی برای پیشروی در جنگل اشارات. نابینایان در ظلماتی از صداها مخفی میشوند. آنها همانقدر که در نگاه دیگران برهنه و بیپناهاند، فرمانروای بیچون و چرای سرزمینی هستند که بر مکاشفه و انتزاع بنا شده است. اودیپ پس از آنکه درمییابد پدرش لایوس را کشته و با مادر خودش یوکاسته خوابیده است، چشمان خود را کور میکند. نابینایی اودیپ با اینکه عقوبتی خودخواسته است، او را از گناهانش تطهیر میکند و به رهایی میرساند. او در واقع از چشم سٙر میگذرد تا به چشمی برسد که میتواند سِرّ حقیقت را به او نشان بدهد. بر خلاف «بونوئل» که در «با آخرین نفسهایم» میگوید از کورها خوشش نمیآید، نابینایان برای من اسرارآمیز باقی ماندهاند. تسلط آنان بر جهان پیرامون، همیشه مرا ترسانده است. آنها در چشمی غیر مادی حلول میکنند و با کلمهای دقیق، حضورشان در واقعیت را به دیگری اعلام میکنند. کلمات، آنان را از جهان انتزاع جدا کرده و چون بریدهای از مادیتی ناشناس بر واقعیت محتوم سنجاق میکند… آوازِ «خوان برهوا»، این صدای شکسته و مواج در سولئارس، دردی مضاعف را بر دوش موسیقی میگذارد، چرا که برهوا بر لبههای دو جهانی ایستاده است که ما تنها گرمایش را بر پوستمان احساس میکنیم و خونش را در «آیره»ای سوزان بر گونههای گرگرفتهی برهوا میبینیم.
